KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Twenty-four teams took to the
court at 12 on-campus locations across the country in NAIA Volleyball
National Championship Opening Round action on Saturday. The winners
advance to the Tyson Events Center/Gateway Arena in Sioux City, Iowa,
location of the NAIA National Championship final site presented by
Siouxland Sports Medicine Foundation Dec. 1 - 5. All but one
host team was victorious Saturday. Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), Point Loma
Nazarene (Calif.), Taylor (Ind.), Bellevue (Neb.), Lubbock Christian
(Texas) and Shawnee State (Ohio) all posted 3-0 shutout wins to punch
their tickets to Sioux City. Four teams, Indiana Tech, Doane (Neb.),

St. Ambrose
(Iowa), who last qualified for the National Championship in 1999,
advanced to the final site with a thrilling five-set (16-25, 25-17,
15-25, 25-16, 15-9) win over College of the Ozarks (Mo.).
Saturday's
final match went down to the wire with Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) taking
down Southern Oregon on the road in five sets (15-25, 25-14, 30-32,
25-13, 16-14).
The following teams received an opening round
bye: Azusa Pacific (Calif.), Biola (Calif.), California Baptist,
College of Idaho, Columbia (Mo.), Concordia (Calif.), Fresno Pacific
(Calif.), Georgetown (Ky.), host Morningside (Iowa), Northwestern
(Iowa), Texas at Brownsville and Vanguard (Calif.).
The final 24
teams will be placed into six pools and will play a round robin pool
play Dec. 1-3, with the top two teams from each pool advancing to the
single elimination bracket starting Dec. 4. The championship match will
take place at 8 p.m. (CST) on Dec. 5.
Final site pool assignments and schedule will be announced by 6 p.m. (CST) on Sunday.
